Crackers for every Telangana celebration
Deepavali is the biggest, but it is not the only day. Each guide tells you when the day falls, what families actually light, and which boxes to put in your order.
Festivals
The days the South buys crackers
Sealed Standard Fireworks boxes at the Sivakasi wholesale price, delivered for every one of them.
Deepavali
8 November 2026
In Telugu homes Deepavali is really two days. Naraka Chaturdashi starts before sunrise with an oil bath and the first crackers at the gate, and the Deepavali evening brings the clay diyas out onto every wall, parapet and balcony.
What to buyBathukamma and Dasara
September or October, through the nine nights of Navaratri
Bathukamma is Telangana's own festival. For nine evenings women stack seasonal flowers, tangedu and gunugu among them, into tall cones, sing around them in the lanes and courtyards, and carry them to a tank or lake. The last evening, Saddula Bathukamma, falls just before Dasara.
What to buySankranti
Mid January, over three or four days
Sankranti is the harvest festival, and in Telangana it belongs to the sky as much as the ground. Bhogi fires are lit at dawn on the first day, muggulu cover the front of every house, and from the roofs of Hyderabad the kites go up and stay up until dark.
What to buyUgadi
March or April, on Chaitra Shuddha Padyami
Ugadi opens the Telugu year. Mango leaf torans go up over the door, the house eats Ugadi pachadi with its six tastes for the six kinds of days ahead, and in the evening the panchanga sravanam reads out what the new year holds.
What to buyChristmas and New Year
25 December and 31 December
Christmas midnight mass fills the old churches of Secunderabad and the great cathedral at Medak, and a week later Hyderabad counts down to the new year from terraces and gated community lawns across the city.
What to buyFamily occasions
The other days that need crackers
Weddings, temple festivals, housewarmings and birthdays, each with a very different list.
Weddings
Through the muhurtham season
A Telugu wedding has its own cracker moments: the groom's procession arriving at the hall, the muhurtham itself, often late at night or before dawn, and the send-off when the bride leaves for her new home.
What to buyTemple festivals and jataras
Through the year, by temple and village
Telangana's year is full of jataras. From Medaram, the Sammakka Saralamma jatara in the forests of Mulugu that draws people from across the country every two years, to the Bonalu processions of Hyderabad in Ashada and the smallest village fair, each has its own way of marking the goddess's day.
What to buyHousewarming
On your muhurtham day
A gruhapravesam is timed to a muhurtham, often in the early morning. The family walks in, milk is boiled in the new kitchen until it rises over the pot, and the house hears its first celebration.
What to buyBirthdays
Any day of the year
A first birthday, a sixtieth, or simply a big family evening often ends downstairs or on the terrace after the cake is cut.
